What a phenomenal little piece of history!
This makes a perfect paperweight or desk decor, and would also be awesome in a vintage collection of writing ephemera.
The inkwell itself still seems to have its inner parts functional, although as I do not want to break it to find out-I have not removed the stopper or attempted to use it.
The rim of the stopper reads:
"The Davis Automatic Inkstand Pat. Dec. 23, 1913, April 21, October 13, 1914- New York-"
This was in my grandmother's collection and was on display in her home when I was growing up.
I have kept it on my desk for years and am now ready to pass it on.
Has some wear around the top of the well, and the glass bears straw marks etc. common for glass of that era.
There are a couple very small bites in the glass on the bottom.
Measures 3" in diameter and sits 2 7/8" tall.
